WHAT IS DIFFERENT OR NEW?

Originally created by psychologists trained as Jungian analysts

Carl Jung's concepts of personality functioning have achieved staggering acceptance and widespread popularity, largely as result of the sale and use of personality inventories more or less based on his ideas. Curiously, the largest selling personality that draws from Jung's ideas was not initially created by individuals trained in Jungian psychology. More recent versions of the aforementioned inventory and the several other available personality inventories keyed to Jung's concepts (with the exception of the Grey-Wheelright Personality Inventory and the Singer-Loomis Type Deployment Inventory) were not developed by trained Jungian psychologists.

The SL-TDI is the only one of these personality inventories free of the convention of a forced-choice structure. It was only after June Singer and Mary Loomis, both Jungian analysts, empirically tested the forced-choice structure and discovered that the forced-choice structure was creating results that were different than those obtained when the measurement system did not presuppose the bipolar condition (but did not preclude producing bipolar information if measurement revealed the condition actually was present). In short, June Singer and Mary Loomis tested assumptions others had taken for granted and then, in the spirit of further evolving Jung's ideas, created a fresh, new approach to Jung's concepts.
